US Market Ends Higher with Palantir Leading at 24%

Market Overview

On Wednesday, US stock market closed higher on Tuesday, led by tech gains. Palantir surged 24%, making it the top performer among Nasdaq-listed companies. Investors continued to assess the impact of Trump’s trade policies while focusing on earnings reports from Alphabet and other tech giants, as well as key economic data.

Economic Data

  • US December job openings fell more than expected, reaching a three-month low, aligning with the trend of a gradually slowing labor market.
  • According to the JOLTS report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job openings decreased from 8.16 million in November (revised) to 7.6 million in December, falling short of economist forecasts.
  • The decline was driven by professional and business services, partially reversing the previous two months of increases. Healthcare, social assistance, finance, and insurance also saw notable drops.
  • Analysts suggest that falling job openings could curb wage growth, reinforcing the Fed’s stance that the labor market is no longer a primary driver of inflation.
